Thursford packed for Methodist Songs of Praise

thursford wurlitzer 314 AR2016: Almost 1000 people attended one of East Anglia’s biggest Songs of Praise celebrations which took place at the famous Thursford Collection near Fakenham on Sunday March 13.

The annual event was organized by the Central Norfolk Methodist Circuit, in conjunction with the Thursford museum, is always one of the most popular events in the Norfolk church calendar, attracting people from all over the country.

Thousands of pounds were raised for this year's chosen cause, which was was the East Anglian Air Ambulance, and the theme of the worship was based around the healing and rescue elements of the charity.

The main speaker this year was Rev. Julian Pursehouse, Chair of the East Anglian Methodist District, and other participants were the Fakenham Town Band, one of  the foremost brass bands in East Anglia, and Danny Wakefield, playing the magnificent Mighty Wurlitzer organ, as well as the Methodist choir.

An additional element this year included the entire afternoon being signed for the hearing impaired. This was done by the Rev Anne Richardson, well-known in Norfolk for her ministry among the deaf community.

The Thursford Songs of Praise started many years ago at the invitation of the Collection’s founder George Cushing and his wife, who suggested that a service using the Wurlitzer cinema organ would prove a big attraction. George's son John has been very happy to continue the tradition.
