Archbishops charge 2017 600AT

Crowds enjoy Diocese fun run and picnic in N Norfolk

2017: Hundreds of runners, walkers, and families attended the eighth Archdeacon's Charge and Picnic on Monday May 1 at Wolterton Hall in North Norfolk.

Archdeacon of Lynn 500ATThe Archdeacon’s Charge is an annual sponsored fun run or walk and family picnic organised by the Diocese of Norwich in support of the East Anglian Air Ambulance. The event was created by the Venerable John Ashe, Archdeacon of Lynn, pictured right, as a fun way for parishes to raise money for their church and the East Anglian Air Ambulance. The local air ambulance has been very close to Archdeacon John’s heart after it saved his wife’s life, following a serious car accident.

The event has been running since 2010 and each year it continues to grow. Since it began the event has raised nearly £100,000 for the EAAA.

This year was particularly special as through the generosity of Peter Sheppard and Keith Day the event took place in the beautiful grounds of their home, Wolterton Hall. Crowds were also delighted to welcome royal patrons Their Royal Highnesses Prince and Princess Michael of Kent who landed in the park in a helicopter generously sponsored by SaxonAir.

Aside from the sponsored run and walk, there was also a large picnic village area, which included:

  • A Craft Market
  • A Classic Car Display
  • A wide variety of children’s and youth activities (including kayaking and a football cage)
  • Archery
  • A second-hand book stall
  • A sweet cart
  • Ronaldo's ice-cream
  • A wide variety of refreshment stalls
  • Live music from the ever popular "Dixie Mix" jazz band

Anglia One, the East Anglian Air Ambulance helicopter, also made a special appearance by landing at the event.
