Beeston Regis Sarah Mapes 600C

Beeston Regis church organist does another runner!

2017: Beeston Regis church organist Sarah Mapes will be running in the Budapest marathon this weekend to raise funds for church funds, and especially to install a toilet. Tony Rothe reports.

Earlier this year, Sarah raised £700 by successfully completing the London Marathon after struggling to get back to full fitness following two car accidents last year. Read the Network Norfolk story about this here.

A group of 17 people from Norfolk will be travelling to Budapest - 12 runners and 5 supporters. 8 runners will be taking part in the 10k event, 2 running 30k and the other two complete, including Sarah running the marathon!

Sarah says “This will be my fifth marathon in 2017! I've successfully completed London, Edinburgh, Great Barrow, Flower of Suffolk and this final one, Budapest on October 15.  After playing the organ for a few weddings this summer, the importance of having a toilet in the church has been highlighted yet again. Our hospitality fund currently stands at £3117.31 so we've still a long way to go.

“We're also in the process of applying for grants but we do need to demonstrate that we have raised some of the money ourselves. We will also be holding a programme of fundraising events later in the year and  throughout 2018 so please do come and join us for some fun.

“Even just £1 donated makes a diffference, and every penny counts towards enabling our visitors to spend a penny! Bopping behind gravestones will get chillier as winter approaches but at least you'll be able to warm up again inside as our new heating is complete!”

Beeston Regis church 600ATThe fourteenth century All Saints Church in Beeston Regis has no toilet, which means worshippers and visitors must currently walk down a muddy path to the next-door campsite when they are taken short! Donations have already been received to install a kitchen, although the heating has broken, the roof needs fixing, and a toilet is sorely required to enable comfort at fundraising events and services.
