Renowned Chamber Choir performs Norwich recital

The St Peter’s Singers, based at Leeds Minster, is celebrating its 40th anniversary year with a tour of East Anglia, singing at the Cathedral of St John the Baptist in Norwich on Sunday, October 22.

Leeds Minster-based St Peter’s Singers will be coming to Norwich to sing at the Cathedral of St John the Baptist in Norwich on Sunday, October 22, 1pm as part of a tour of East Anglia.

This renowned choir, who sing English and Continental choral music, will be visiting some of the East of England’s most beautiful cathedrals and churches over five days.

St Peter's Singers are well known for their performances of Bach and Handel, and the afternoon recital at the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Norwich includes two of Handel's magnificent Coronation Anthems, composed in 1727. These are complemented by a selection from E J Moeran's beautiful Songs of Springtime which featured in the choir's inaugural concert in 1977 and again in the 40th Anniversary concert earlier this year.

Dr Simon Lindley, Director of Music of St Peter’s Singers, said: “The Singers look forward with immense pleasure to visiting some of England’s very finest buildings towards the end of October 2017 – beginning with Waltham Abbey, where one of the founding fathers of English music, Thomas Tallis, was once Organist and taking in St John the Baptist Catholic Cathedral Norwich and the Anglican Cathedral churches of Ely and St Edmundsbury and ending with the Parish Church of Peterborough.

“We aim to bring the finest music drawn from a huge variety of traditions, including texts in French and Slavonic as well as English and Latin".
