This year’s Norwich Christmas Appeal to members of Holy Trinity, Norwich, was for the Magdalene Group, a Norwich based charity which for over 30 years has worked in the field of sexual violence, exploitation and coercion.

The Magdalene Group provides gender and trauma informed support to some of the most marginalised women and young people in society.

Richard James, Rector of Holy Trinity said, “The response from Church members and members of Noah’s Boat (our Toddler Group) was, quite simply tremendous and made the task of preparing the Christmas gift bags very straightforward. We are enormously grateful for their generosity and the way in which need was matched by provision”.

Each bag contained a hat, scarf, gloves a thermal vest, toiletries, Christmas biscuits and sweets. There was even a surplus of items which have also been passed to the Magdalene Group.

The Magdalene Group is a long term mission partner and the appeal offered the opportunity to strengthen our link with and understanding of their work. Feedback from the Group is that they are enormously grateful for the 25 gift bags which they will distribute to their service users.

Richard also emphasised the importance of supporting the Magdalene Group. “It’s very simple, Luke 4 v18-19 shows that Jesus came to proclaim good news from God including for those experiencing poverty, powerlessness to change personal circumstances, coercive control and more. The Gift Bags are a simple gift of love and solidarity with women and young people who are marginalised in society”.
