Norfolk tin tabernacle celebrates growth

SaxlinghamNethergate1A Norfolk “tin tabernacle” has celebrated its 120th anniversary with a growing congregation and completion of a £90,000 church extension project.

Saxlingham Chapel is one of a very few remaining ‘tin tabernacles’ in Norfolk. The congregation is growing and at the Chapel’s special 120th Anniversary celebrations in 2007 a building project was launched to raise funds in order to extend the existing facilities.

Ian Masson, one of the Chapel deacons at the Saxlingham Nethergate church, said; “We believe that God is calling us to embark on a journey of faith that affects not only our ministry here at the Chapel today, but also for the years to come.

SaxlinghamNethergate2“The £90,000 needed, which has been entirely raised through gifts from the friends of the Chapel and other local Churches, means that the facilities have now been modernised and extended to meet the needs of a growing church without changing the wonderful character of the original building.”

To dedicate this new extension and to give thanks to God, a celebration weekend will be held at the Chapel on March 15 and 16. Guest speaker is Rev Roland Fidge who will lead a service of dedication on Saturday March 15 at 2.45pm. Sunday services on March 16 at 11am and 6.30pm. Everyone is invited.
