Fruitful season for Norfolk Christian football team

ENYPfootball2012: The Norfolk Christian Football League (NCFL) is growing in both recognition and numbers as more teams, including a growing ENYP team, join this exciting Saturday morning league.

ENYP entered an Under 12s team this season, after a few boys from the Heartsease estate played in the NCFL’s Under 10s five-a-side tournament last year (which they won!). After speaking to many local boys it became clear to ENYP that the demand and need for a local football club was high. Training started last August and the lads have had an amazing first season. They train weekly and play in the league on a Saturday, watched faithfully by family, friends and ENYP supporters.

Tying in with ENYP’s holistic approach, the players have grown not just in physical fitness, but also in emotional and spiritual ways. The team of boys are maturing into respectful and thoughtful young men, guided by Manager Danny Doran-Smith and Coach Dom Ward. Danny said, “We have had a really fruitful first season, the young people have grown in confidence and have been a pleasure to work alongside. It’s also been an honour to get to know local families. Several of the team have also made steps towards a life of Faith.”

ENYPFootball NewOn Thursday 21st June ENYP held a presentation and trophy night, which saw a packed Church at St Francis full of ENYP leaders, team players, parents, family and friends. Mike Culwick (Chair of NCFL) spoke about how the league has developed and how youth work in the area is flourishing. Some of the special trophies awarded included ‘Player’s player’, ‘Team Personality’ and  ‘Most improved player’. One mum commented “Playing for ENYP has helped our son in so many ways. They’re a team of individual and unique youngsters working together as a team, building friendships and knocking down personal barriers. Helped by a great management team they’ve all grown in confidence, which you could see at the presentation, where they were all beaming with pride, as were us parents!”

Next season the team hope to build on the strong foundations laid this year and continue show respect, commitment, maturity and discipline both on and off the field.
