Fakenham tree fest 17 640AT

Christmas Tree festival at Fakenham Church

2017: Fakenham Parish Church will be packed with Christmas trees at the end of November for the seventeenth annual Christmas Tree Festival. Tony Rothe reports.

The festival will be open from 10am to 8pm daily from Thursday November 30 to Thursday December 7, except on Sunday December 3, when there will be a non-Communion Festival service at 10.30am at which the charities display a token of their work and receive a blessing. Everyone is invited to this service; however, the Festival will not open until 12 noon after the service. At 7.45pm the Festival will close, and the choir will sing Compline – a short, quiet evening service – to which all are invited.

Tea, coffee, homemade cakes and filled rolls will be available from 10am to 7pm every day (from 12noon on Sunday).  Light lunches and teas will also be available.

Fakenham trees 17 640AT“The church always looks amazing for the Christmas Tree Festival, full of light and colour” said churchwarden Keith Osborn. “We have around fifty trees, each decorated by a different charity, and we expect, as in previous years, to get thousands of visitors, including many coach and school parties. It’s a great way of engaging with our local – and not so local – community, and communicating the good news of Christmas through our hospitality, hourly prayers and giving visitors the opportunity to pray and remember loved ones at our dedicated prayer trees”.

Groups and Schools wishing to visit should contact the church in advance, as there is a limit to the number of groups visiting at any one time. If you are a school or group wishing a meal, then booking is essential. School visits are not possible on Thursdays.

Parking is available in nearby Highfield Road Car Park, which can also accommodate buses and coaches.
