Story-telling class for East Norfolk Christians

2018: An Open the Book Initial Team Training Day will be held in Ludham later this month to teach local Christians how to tell stories!

Open the Book is a national project that offers primary school children an opportunity to hear the major stories of the Bible from a team of Christians from local churches who present the stories during assemblies/acts of collective worship. The stories are fun and engaging, often incorporating actions, simple costumes and props, and audience participation.

Each presentation takes around 10-15 minutes and can be incorporated into a wider school assembly or can stand alone. It is a three-year rolling programme with an additional, but optional year of material based on Christian values.

On Saturday February 24 there is an opportunity for those interested in forming an Open the Book Team, or training to be a storyteller to join an existing team, to attend an Initial Open the Book Training Session in Ludham, East Norfolk.

The training, delivered by Irene Nickerson, Open the Book Coordinator for the Diocese of Norwich, is an opportunity for local groups and individuals from parishes or other ecumenical churches to explore what it means to deliver Open the Book and will include an overview of the Open the Book materials, delivering Open the Book as a team, and aspects of storytelling.

Irene said “Open the Book is an ideal initiative for churches to use as a way of connecting with their local primary school. It can work really well with teams forming ecumenically with members from a number of local churches. And, because materials are scripted and simple to use, both the presenting team and the school can be clear about what is being delivered.”

The training will take place at  The Church Rooms, Norwich Road, Ludham, NR29 5QA. The Church Rooms are next door to St Catherine’s Church. Please note there is on road parking only, as the church does not have a carpark.

Registration will be from 9.15am with the training beginning at 9.30am and finishing at 3pm. Tea and coffee will be provided during the day, but please bring a packed lunch.

This event is free but booking is essential.
