Enjoy gardens, art & trains to fix Northrepps church roof

2018: All the funds raised from the Northrepps Open Gardens & Arts Weekend over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend next month will help to repair the parish church’s roof following a major lead theft last year. Tony Rothe reports.

The roof of St Mary the Virgin Church in the village is expected to cost £29,000 to repair using a non-lead alternative to replace the lead that was stolen. The insurers have only agreed to pay £7500 towards this, so the village is raising over £20,000 to accomplish the vital work.
Northrepps Mike Barry 477CFThe usually biennial Open Gardens day is being combined with an art exhibition this year to create a major two-day fund-raising event. There will be a range of paintings, sketches, home-made cards, jewellery and glass art for sale as well as a tombola, and refreshments in the form of light lunches and afternoon teas.
Visitors will start at Northrepps Village Hall, and there are over 10 gardens to explore, large and small, formal and developing, including one with steam model garden railway, right. Some of the gardens are new for this year. The Arts Exhibition will be in the Village Hall as well as on stalls in various gardens around the village.
The event will run from 10.30am to 4.30pm on Saturday May 26 and Sunday May 27. Parking is free all day at Northrepps Village Hall, NR27 0LB,. Tickets are £5 per adult; accompanied children free.

Admission wristbands and maps are available at Northrepps Village Hall. Dogs are welcome around the village but not allowed in the gardens themselves.
