Ex-naval chief speaks at Norwich dinner

Captain Richard Meryon, former chief engineer on HMS Ark Royal  -  and later, director of the Garden Tomb in Jerusalem – was guest speaker at the FGB dinner in Norwich on Monday, June 18 at the Mercure Hotel, NR3 2BA.

All are welcome to this inspirational dinner evening at 7 for 7.30pm.

Richard and his wife, Rosalind, live near Bath, Somerset, and both are both committed Christians.  Richard joined the Royal Navy at 17 and came to faith in Christ at 21.

He won top awards as a naval student and went on to senior roles in naval engineering. After ‘retirement’, he has been busy lending his leadership skills to support Christian charities at home and abroad.

In 2006, Richard and Rosalind set of to Israel’s capital to oversee the UK charity that has administered the Garden Tomb since 1867 and is believed by many to be the location of Jesus' resurrection. The tranquil two-acre garden is an oasis of peace, just outside the old city’s walls, and is visited by more than 300,000 people a year.

British Christians bought the garden 125 years ago and formed The Garden Tomb Association, allowing visitors to enter the area free of charge. “In the garden there is a perfect representation of the Biblical accounts at the end of the four Gospels,” says Richard. “Everything in those four Gospels matches what we show people at the location.”

This event is one of the regular FGB Fellowship’s dinner evenings where speakers share "new life stories."  Norwich FGB Chapter is part of the Full  Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship in more than 100 nations.  FGB is endorsed by the Archbishop of York,  Dr John Sentamu, who says: “We need more men like them.”
