Cromer Church team helps local primary school students

2018: A small team from Cromer Church spent last Tuesday morning with the year 6 pupils at Cromer Junior School exploring the potential changes, challenges, choices they will face as they undertake the transition to secondary school.

The team used the ‘It’s Your Move’ material published by Scripture Union as the basis for their hour-long sessions.

Research conducted by Scripture Union has confirmed that the big change from primary to secondary school can be particularly stressful, as children come to terms with being the small fish in a much bigger pond. They developed "It's Your Move", a book designed to help primary schools as they prepare their top-year pupils for their move to their new school. It's packed with wise advice and true stories of young people who have already taken that big step.

SU its your move 640CFSimon Fenn, Head of Mission at Cromer Church, said “The material is great and addresses some of the real issues the pupils will face.  By talking through the 'changes, challenges and choices' the young people were able to address some of their fears, gain confidence to embrace new things and recognise that they can influence their future.

“The staff appreciated our input, and one commented “this is excellent, and it really helps the children to hear it from someone other than ourselves.  It’s great that they are able to explore their concerns.” The pupils listened well and responded positively. We were also able to share how our faith had helped us deal with changes, challenges and choices in our own lives.

“I would like to thank everyone who was praying for us on Tuesday and all the generous donations towards the booklets.  With a special thanks to Jackie Austin and John Attfield who helped co-deliver the sessions.  We very much enjoyed our visit and look forward to developing this vital ministry.”

Now on its sixth edition since its publication in 2001, It's Your Move has helped over a million children move on with confidence. You can also download the It's Your Move leaflet, special church notice board poster and the It's Your Move resource booklet from the SU website.
