Come and join a prayer chain around UK coast

Jen Gaskin is calling on people to form a prayer chain around the British coastline on September 21, and Norfolk Christians are urged to take part. Tony Rothe reports.

The idea is that Christians simply gather on that day at their nearest bit of the UK coast for prayer and, if they wish, a time of worship, and declare the Lord’s Prayer together at exactly 12 noon.

Jen Gaskin and her organising team, pictured above with Jen in the centre, have been contacting churches and Christian organisations and individuals in recent weeks, and have included all denominations within the Christian faith. They have particularly targeted coastal churches.

Jen says “I believe the Lord is saying to form a Prayer Chain around the UK coastline. The Lord spoke to me some time ago about this mission. With all that is going on in our country I believe God is saying ‘Now is the time’. I prayed and asked for a date, and awoke one morning with September 21 on my mind. My first thought was ‘Is it a Saturday?’ which, of course, it is! And it is also International Peace Day!

“So far, all the Lord has shown me is for Christians to form a Prayer Chain at midday and declare The Lord‘s Prayer in unison. Clearly, groups are free to arrange worship and further prayer before or after midday. Let’s not forget that we are all part of God’s Spiritual Land Army.”

Jen says that there have been some good responses to her call, including the Birmingham Prayer Centre and Rob Parker, with his CD called Awakening the Coastlands, although obviously there are other Christian and secular events happening that day.
