Ruth morey 750AT
New leader for North Walsham Salvation Army

Ruth Morey has been appointed as the new leader of North Walsham Salvation Army after moving from Derbyshire. She is also the new chaplain to the charity's Furze Hill care home. Tony Rothe reports.

Over the course of the coming year she intends to establish greater links with other churches and service providers within the community and collaboratively work together to meet the needs of the town by introducing a new and exciting programme which is inclusive and has something for everyone.

Ruth said, “This is an exciting challenge and I feel very honoured and privileged to be given the opportunity to shepherd the flock and be a pastoral leader of the Salvation Army here in North Walsham and Chaplain to Furze Hill Care Home. I intend to continue the work already established here in the town and to look at new ways to be salt and light in the community, and continue to serve with dignity, regardless of colour, race or creed.”

Ruth was installed in the role in December, and says that the day was a great blessing and a real expression of her commitment to the Salvation Army and the local people with Glory to God for all that has past and with great excitement for all that is to come.

Ruth says her welcome so far has been warm with lots of tea drinking and cake eating! “People have been very kind and supportive as I am settling into a new role and a new place to live.”

In Ruth’s limited opportunities for spare time she enjoys kayaking, walking, gardening and being close to nature.
