Rangers win second Norfolk Christian football title

Heigham Park Rangers have claimed the Norfolk Christian Football League title, for the second year running.

In a close-fought season, four teams were still in contention with just two games to go.

The Championship shield was presented after last Saturday’s game, a hard-won victory over South Walsham who pushed Rangers hard to the end.

Rangers manager Tom Woods, said: “As a team we’re extremely proud to have won the Norfolk Christian Football League again this season, but also extremely proud to be part of it. Great praise and testament must go to the other teams, who made it one of the most competitive seasons in recent history, which has been fantastic for the league. With two of our fixtures still to play, four teams could still have claimed the title.

“Beyond the points on the board, the spirit and the nature of the fixtures within this league have been brilliant again and we’re thoroughly looking forward to the cup competition and playing again next season.”

Acting league secretary Paul Nice, said: “After a difficult, and late, start to the Christian football league as we struggled to recover from the sudden death of our much respected secretary, Alan Barnes, a good competitive season has taken place.

“Going into the last few games of the season, any team from Rangers, St Johns, Eaton Eagles or South Walsham could have become champions.  Rangers were able to eventually emerge as the champions for the second season running.  Well done to them.

“All other teams battled hard pushing the top four to play well in virtually all games.  All teams have won some games this season and no one club has been cut adrift.

“Weather also played a part with the cold snap in December causing all but one game to be postponed.  Thanks to all teams for their support and flexibility.

“Mostly, matches have been played in a good spirit of Christian fellowship and the committee have had few issues to deal with.

“Onto the Bishop’s Cup now and the awarding of the Fellowship Trophy - a key recognition for the team that best represents the Christian values of the league.”
