Circus theme for North Norfolk scout parade

1st Buxton Lamas Sea Scout Group will be hosting this year’s St Georges Day service and parade, and all are welcome to come along.

This year’s event, on Sunday April 23, will have a circus theme, with Circus Ferrel on site providing a workshop, an Animal Encounter offering an opportunity for children to handle some of the animals, learn about their habitats and how to look after them, face painting, crafting, axe throwing (for Explorers and Scouts), ‘caving’, climbing walls and many other activities.
 
Around 500 Scout members of all ages – Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Adult Leaders and Supporters - will assemble at Dudwick Park, Brook Street, Buxton NR10 5AB, from 12.30pm for the Parade begin at 1.00pm and roads through Buxton village will be closed to traffic. The parade, led by retired Scout leader Paul Gillingwater will proceed through the centre of the village to the Sea Scout HQ at Balay Park, Aylsham Road, Buxton NR10 5EX
 
The Service and Celebration will begin at 1.30pm. The Cawston Marching Band will accompany the parade, and will play during the celebration service, and also throughout the afternoon. The salute will be given during the parade in the entrance to the Balay Park and will be taken by North East Norfolk District Commissioner, Paul Henriksen accompanied by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk The Lady Dannatt with other civic dignitaries and representatives from local associations who support scouting.  
 
Flag Bearers will form a Guard of Honour either side of the gathering on the Playing Field where the St George’s Day Service will be held, led by Revd Canon Julie Boyd – NE Norfolk Scouts District Chaplain and Team Rector of the Aylsham & District Team Ministry, and accompanied by Fr. Peter Wygnanski - Parish Administrator of Our Lady of Refuge Cromer & St Joseph, Sheringham.  
 
The Celebration will include the renewal of Scout Promises by all Members with presentations, and there will be plenty of interaction with the young people including worship songs with lots of actions, clapping etc. A collection will be made for Nelson’s Journey, the Norfolk charity which supports bereaved children and young people.
 
Scouts and Scout Leaders, along with their families and supporters from across Norfolk will be attending, not just from the Broads area but from Norwich, North Norfolk and the West of the County – Scout Groups from Aylsham, Buxton Lamas, Cromer, Hainford & Frettenham, Holt & Melton Constable, Hoveton & Wroxham, Mundesley, North Walsham, Roughton Mill, Salhouse, Stalham and West Runton will all be represented.

As well as providing Circus Workshops for those attending the Scouting event on the Sunday, Circus Ferrel will also be performing at the park on the previous day, Saturday 22 April with a special ticket price.
