ENYPpicnicBroadland picnic project tackles food poverty

As part of ENYP’s growing food initiatives to support those struggling with food poverty the charity is launching a new picnic initiative in the Broadland area of Norwich.

National reports show that for many households struggling with food poverty its not driven by ignorance or an inability to cook, but poverty. Consequently decisions made on food choices are often for more cheaper options than a healthier diet when finances are tight. Equally with the food prices continuing to rise despite thousands accessing the social supermarket and other initiatives there is still increasing demand and need for people to be helped to access food.

Norfolk charity ENYP has set up a project to provide families with fresh food parcels to help them meet the growing demands of feeding their households whilst at the same time providing more healthier options to ensure that food poverty does not impact further on mental and physical health.

ENYP have secured funding to provide this support to a limited number of households and have a referral system in place for this (please note that households must be resident in the Broadland council area of Norwich.)

Lucie Fox, from ENYP, said, “we reach thousands of people through our food initiatives and see daily many who suffer from food poverty and often this can be hidden. We’ve had the privilege to develop a range of projects that help tackle some of these immediate needs and we’re looking forward to being able to support more households in need in other areas of the city. If you know of anyone who may benefit please ask them to make contact with us.”
