Brooke Adventurers completed a league and cup double in the Norfolk Christian Youth U16 League on Saturday (May 20) at Thorpe High School.

In a four-team cup round-robin format, league champions Brooke won all three games scoring six goals without reply. But this does not tell the whole story as they were within six minutes of losing the cup to second-placed Silver Road who won their first two games with a better goal difference than Brooke. The two played in the final game and it took Brooke until just six minutes from time to break the deadlock – and the hearts of a brave Silver Road side - with two classy goals.

Easton took third-place with a victory over Sheringham Lighthouse. Sheringham could take solace from winning the league Fellowship trophy, which they were presented with on Saturday, alongside winners’ trophies for Brooke, by League Secretary Paul Nice and League Chairman, Mike Culwick.

Paul said: “We thought it would be a fun way to end the season by getting all four teams together and have a league format. All the games were played in the right spirit and it all went to the wire in the last game. Brooke deservedly won but all credit to Silver Road, Sheringham and Easton for the games they played today.

“The Fellowship trophy is particularly important to the league as it is not just about winning at all costs. It is about teams getting together and enjoying a game in a spirit of fellowship. It represents the values of the league which is taking part while playing competitive football.”

With the future of the youth league in some doubt for next season due to a lack of teams, Mike said: “After 25 years this may be the last set of youth league games as the future is uncertain. At its height the league saw over 400 young people playing each Saturday morning, enjoying good football and also hearing about the Christian faith.”
