Revd Ashley GY 750 CF
Yarmouth Vicar to run 5k for charity

On Saturday 26th August Revd Ashley Hines, Team Vicar in the Great Yarmouth Parish, will be undertaking a five kilometre run with fellow church member Rose Bishop to raise money for the Great Yarmouth Pathway.

Revd Ashley (known locally as Mother Ashley) plans to complete her first ever five kilometre jog at the Gorleston Park Run which starts at the top north end of the Gorleston cliffs and finishes at the bottom.  Mother Ashley has been training hard and is looking forward to the challenge.  She explains: “As an overweight old lady who doesn’t like exercise, the challenge for myself is to keep motivated and focus on the needs of our community. I have never ran 5k before but with the help and support of Rose we will accomplish it."

Mother Ashley joined the Parish of Great Yarmouth in September 2022, and not long afterwards became a regular presence at the Great Yarmouth Pathway Café and Support Centre which was set up by the churches of the parish based at the Minster Mission building on Admiralty Road.  The Pathway Cafe was established to provide a regular meal and company free of charge for local people who needed it and is now an independent charity. In March 2022 the Pathway Café also launched the Yarmouth & Magdalen Foodbank in partnership with the Trussell Trust and St Mary Magdalene Church in Gorleston.

“Pathway is an essential part of my ministry in Great Yarmouth" comments Mother Ashley, "and we feed approximately 250 people a week who are unemployed or on low incomes. We provide anywhere between 50 - 70 food parcels a week to those in need. With the cost of living crisis and our usual givers cutting back on their donations it is even more important that we are the face of Christ in our community’s at this difficult time.”
