King’s Lynn social supermarket marks first year

The Purfleet Pantry in King’s Lynn marked its first anniversary last Friday with a party to celebrate and thank key supporters.

On Friday May 10, the Purfleet Pantry held a first birthday celebration attended by customers, staff, and key supporters.

The pantry, located on Southgates Roundabout, was launched by the Purfleet Trust in conjunction with Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk and is supported by individuals and local businesses. It provides affordable food and furniture to the local community aiming to tackle the cost of living crisis in South Lynn.

The Purfleet Pantry has held different initiatives throughout the year, including free dental products for children, working with local councillor Alexandra Kemp.

At the celebration, Councillor Kemp described the supermarket as a, “vibrant, empowering community hub that now helps over 900 members - with baskets on average 38% cheaper than supermarket equivalents.”

Over the past year, the Pantry has been able to support over 3000 people, including over 260 families with young children. More than 10 local businesses and food suppliers continue to support the Pantry by supplying discounted products to the Pantry, where savings can then be passed onto customers.

Pantry Manager, Karen Mason said: “I was proud to be able to celebrate our birthday with the people who have helped shape our community shop into the success it has become. It was a real pleasure to see so many of our loyal customers and generous local businesses take time out of their busy days to join in the festivities.”
