2020 plans for Norwich churches to pray together

The Norfolk and Waveney Churches Together group with Transforming Norwich have outlined plans for their ecumenical events in Norwich over the next six months, kicking off with a training day in November to prepare for the World Day of Prayer.

In 2020 the World Day of Prayer will take place on Friday, March 6. The theme, written by women in Zimbabwe, will be ‘Rise, take your mat and walk’.  To encourage churches across Norwich to host World Day of Prayer services, a training day will be held on Friday, November 1, 10.30am-3.30pm at Heartease Methodist Church.

Maggie Pickford, President of the National Committee of the World Day of Prayer, will give background information about Zimbabwe and go through details of the 2020 service.

If you would like to attend please book in advance by contacting Joan Graves at gageroadchapel@btinternet.com for a form – it must be returned with the registration fee of £5.00 per person by October 18. Please bring your own lunch. Drinks and biscuits will be provided.

On Thursday, January 23, the annual Chain of Prayer service will take place at Norwich Cathedral as part of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. From 10am – 4pm in St Luke’s Chapel of the Cathedral churches from across all denominations and traditions in Greater Norwich will be invited to take 15 minute prayer slots. The event is supported by Ecumenical Canons.

Catherine Howe, Norfolk’s Ecumenical Officer, said: “Everyone will be very welcome to drop by and join in praying for Christian Unity at any time during the day, which ever church will be taking the lead. If you are a church and would like to take one of the slots please get in contact.”

On Sunday, April 5, 6.15pm the Ecumenical Palm Sunday service will be hosted by the Norwich Salvation Army Citadel on St Giles Street.
