Church knits together a warm hub and craftwork

Chapelfield Methodist Church in Norwich has combined a community warm hub with an opportunity to knit blanket squares for asylum seekers. 

The warm hub has been linked to the church’s long-running ‘Just Come’ group, which is the brainchild of Zing Eagling, who recently retired as a Chaplain at Cromwell House MHA Homes. Zing is keen on craft and created a place where people can come and play board games such as Scrabble, or bring their crafts, like knitting, crochet or sewing.
 
One lady makes greetings cards, and one man even made a model railway wagon at the club. Some sort stamps which have been brought to the church by members and users of the premises to give to the Alzheimer's Society. 

The blanket squares produced are for the Welcome Rucksacks (a City of Sanctuary Project). The church is a keen supporter and has produced a good number of gifts for local asylum seekers.

There is the opportunity to talk to a varied set of people who help each other with the crafts or teach those who wish to learn a new craft. Recently a Reminiscence Therapist who has just moved to Norwich joined the group and brought items which are of great interest. 

The warm hub will open fortnightly from Wednesday January 25 to Wednesday April 5, and will run from 10.00 am until 2.00 pm. People should bring a packed lunch and the church will provide tea or coffee.
